Preparing for a new puppy can be overwhelming. And not to mention expensive.

The puppies are now seven weeks and old enough to have visitors! So today I drove up to Connecticut to see Phyllis, her gang of Westies, and of course, Chuy and his sisters. Now, I may be a little biased, but I think they are the cutest litter I’ve ever seen. I had visited Phyllis once before when Karri was pregnant, and I remember thinking “this is Westie heaven” when I was greeted at the door by her crew. But today it was pure puppy heaven. The best.
I brought along an old t-shirt of mine for Chuy to sleep with, as well as one of the toys from Katie’s package. The toy was a huge hit (with the puppies as well as Bailey, Phyllis’ older male). Enjoy the pictures and video!

Today I came home to a beautifully wrapped box full of goodies for my soon-to-arrive puppy, sent by the amazing Katie. Included with all the stuffed animals, teething toys and blanket was the Whole Dog Journal’s Puppy Primer, which I just finished and would highly recommend to any puppy owner, veteran or first-timer.
Katie is a Westie friend who is owned by the adorable Julep and Derby. After Snowy died in March last year, I remember spending hours online (crying and) looking at YouTube videos and blogs of Westies. Her blog soon became my go-to for a Westie fix. One of my biggest regrets with Snowy was that we didn’t take many pictures of him as a puppy. Katie really inspired me to start this blog so that I can document all of Chuy’s life as he grows up. She has been eagerly awaiting the arrival of my own Westie and I can’t thank her enough for this amazing puppy-welcoming present!

I received a long-awaited email from Phyllis, the breeder,
this morning giving the news: four healthy pups, three girls and – last but not least – one boy! Phyllis said to Karri after each girl, “Come on, a boy for Kelly!” and Karri delivered! (Bad pun, I know.) The pups and mama are doing very well and they’re steadily gaining weight. Welcome to the world, little Chuy!
